instead of the dreaded frosh 15 that everyone worries about...i propose something a little lighter. (har har har) ...so without further adieu, heres a list of 15 things i've learned during my frosh year. enjoy.
1. the world should run on flex.
2. lecture hall seats are seemingly more comfy than res beds, especially mondays at 830am - heck who am i kidding. any class time is good nap time.
3. Golden Words is fake - never EVER call any of the numbers in any of their articles, especially when asking for a partial refund for not getting your choice residence arrangement
4. nothing psycs you out more than cramming 300 pages in 2 days, then staying up til 5am working on an assignment the morning of your 9am psyc midterm.
5. 2am rollerblading trips = way cool.
6. don't sit in front of a sockless, sandal-wearing person during lectures, especially if they like putting their feet up on the back of your seat.
7. it's tough battling out 13 girls in the common room, convincing them to watch the Canucks instead of Gilmour Girls.
8. asking someone which floor they live on when they enter the elevator with you (and you want to help them press the button) can be potentially embarassing. especially if they live on the same floor as you. and it's march.
9. never go to take a shower and forget your towel, especially if your room is at the very very end of the hall.
10. chinese buns, good gravy, "study buddies" at stauffer, and consistent transit systems are underrated.
11. you cant see the sunrise from the lake, thanks to the hospital and botterill hall.
12. kingston winds make me feel extremely skinny.
13. i've turned into a fob-compulsive-people-watcher. blame it on facebook, sitting at stauffer for hours on end, and going to a dominantly-white school (fob? i prefer calling it... clinging to my roots).
14. "the friends you make in university are the ones that stay for life" these past eight months have been the shortest yet longest of my life... where does one start describing these incredible friendships formed within such a short period?
for the gut-splitting-laughs, tears, phone calls and Halls... hospitality and home-cooked meals, frosh dinners, early morning breakfasts, ginormous waffles, missed-lecture notes, letters and random post-it notes on my desktop, sharing sudokus and crosswords...pad love and fecal matter...the hugs, pinches, and punches... walks and talks, gentle rebuking, advice, and encouragements... devos, bible studies, prayers...
thanks for trusting and sharing with me, holding me accountable, allowing me to listen, and letting me try to return the care, concern, and love you've given me. let the good times continue to roll......
15. I've more blessings than I can count. looking back through all the joyful times and the times of trial, i see nothing but God, His love and His mercy. Coming to queen's has allowed me to grow in ways that I never knew were possible. I'm heading home eight months later a completely changed person...yet there is still so much more to experience, to learn, and to grow in.
to an unforgettable and most rewarding frosh year... -cheers.
